COVID-Safe Tips For Camping With The Kids

We’re finally getting a bit of normality back in our lives from the stresses of the past year, and it makes sense to want to get out on the road and leave it all behind for a while. However, we’re not completely in the clear just yet; there are still concerns regarding the new COVID-19 variants, which is why it’s so important to ensure you’re still taking those extra precautions to stay safe while you’re out travelling, not only to keep others safe, but you and your family too.

If you’d planned an exciting trip with the kids last year and had to cancel as restrictions tightened, now is the time to get that much needed sunny break. There are still a few things to think about to keep the whole family safe and to ensure you still have a camping break to remember! We’ve put together a few tips to help your trip run as smoothly and as safely as possible.

Don’t forget essential supplies
Before COVID, essential supplies would mean food, water and sleeping bags. Now, it’s face masks and hand sanitiser! Make sure these essentials are packed ready to go as well as packing spares for the whole family, as you’ll not be allowed inside different establishments without a mask. Also make sure the kids are aware of how important it is to wear a mask inside and to make sure hand sanitiser is used regularly.

Take advantage of the outdoors
With the warmer weather making an appearance, make sure you plan lots of fun activities outdoors or pitch up your camper and set up a BBQ in your own space. It’s worth keeping in mind that crowds around camping spots are likely as the temperatures soar, so plan your route wisely. Instead of eating indoors at a restaurant, choose an outdoor table and practice social distancing where possible.

Have the safety talk with the kids
Depending on the age of your kids, they may not be fully aware of the seriousness of the pandemic, or even be fully clear on what is expected of them in a public setting. Make sure you set out some rules before your trip or even daily if needed to keep your children safe and parents as stress free as possible!

Pick week day trips rather than weekends
If your kids are at the age where you don’t yet have to plan everything around school term time (or even if they’re past that stage) then weekday trips will be much quieter than weekends as parents will be working. Fewer crowds means a much safer trip!

Look for bigger spaces to pitch your camper
Having a good amount of space can not only give you room to plan more activities with the family, but will also be a safer option than having a pitch directly next to another group. There are many sites that allow lots of space, so make sure you check out a few areas before you settle on one.
