3 Winter Routes For You And Your Campervan

11/25/2020

Cold days (and nights) are on the way, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors and miss out on the beauty of winter from the warmth of your camper! Winter time is one of the most stunning times of year for admiring nature and the countryside, so planning a winter camping trip is well worth it, especially when restrictions in the UK are preventing us from doing what we’d normally do at this time of year with friends and family.

Take initial measures to ensure your camper stays as warm as possible (you can find some of our tips and further information here) and get ready to make some memories.

The Atlantic Highway

If you’re in love with Devon and Cornwall’s beautiful beaches and landscape, this is a route you have to try. From Bath to Chesil Beach, enjoy views of the Atlantic as well as the moorlands and historical buildings. You can even make a quick stop to sample the iconic clotted cream!

It’s best to avoid peak times for this route as it can get quite busy and Cornwalls narrow streets need to be kept in mind. If you want to make the trip a little longer than the 7 day, 380 mile trip, you can carry on your journey through Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.

Scotland North Coast 500

Sometimes described as Scotland’s answer to Route 66, this route is perfect for making the most of clear roads and experiencing Scotland’s majestic Highland landscape. It begins and ends at Inverness castle and passes through idyllic towns and villages.

Of course, always check the weather before travelling and ensure your camper is in tip top shape before you begin the route. As this is a 516 mile trip over around 7 days, don’t underestimate the fuel you have available. Plan your stops wisely!

Midlands – Glossop to Chatsworth House Route

For lovers of the Peak District, this is certainly the route for you! Even though the route is relatively short at 80 miles over 2 days, it’ll take you through the Peak District and give you a nice break from the hustle and bustle of city life. As well as the incredible views, there are also hiking and cycling opportunities too.

Again, be cautious of the weather – it can change very quickly and roads can often be closed if weather conditions are unsafe for travellers. The route can also be extended as you wish, with so much more of the Yorkshire countryside to see!
